Der erfolgreiche Automobilrennfahrer fuhr für namhafte Teams wie Brabham, Ferrari, Lotus und Williams. Er wurde mehrfach Grand Prix Sieger.
Die argentinische Rennsportlegende Carlos Reutemann ist im Alter von 79 Jahren gestorben. Reutemann gewann 12 Grand Prix für Brabham, Ferrari und Williams in einer Karriere mit 146 Rennen von 1972 bis 1982.

Obwohl er nie den Weltmeistertitel gewann, landete er viermal unter den ersten drei der Meisterschaft und verpasste die Krone von 1981 nur um einen einzigen Punkt in einem letzten Rennen mit seinem südamerikanischen Landsmann Nelson Piquet.

Reutemann, der in seiner Heimat Argentinien auch zwei Podestplätze in der Rallye-Weltmeisterschaft holte, wandte sich nach dem Rückzug aus dem Motorsport in seiner Heimatstadt Santa Fe und im argentinischen Senat der Politik zu.
Reutemann wurde 2017 Leberkrebs diagnostiziert und setzte seine politische Karriere bis zu seiner jüngsten Krankenhauseinweisung fort.
„Wir sind zutiefst traurig zu hören, dass Carlos Reutemann verstorben ist“, heißt es in einem Statement der Formel 1. „Er war viele Jahre ein großer Teil unseres Sports und ein Kämpfer bis zum Schluss. Er wird sehr vermisst.“
Carlos Alberto Reutemann wurde am 12. April 1942 in Santa Fe, dort verstarb er auch auch am 7. Juli 2021. Er war ein argentinischer Automobilrennfahrer und Politiker. Der in seiner Heimat unter dem Spitznamen „El Lole“ bekannt gewordene Nachfahre Schweizer Einwanderer war von 1972 bis 1982 in der höchsten Motorsportklasse Formel 1 aktiv.

Von 1991 bis 1995 sowie von 1999 bis 2003 fungierte Reutemann in seiner Heimatprovinz Santa Fe als Gouverneur. Von 2003 bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 2021 war er Senator dieser Provinz.
Carlos Reutemann gewann in der Formel 1 insgesamt zwölf Grand Prix, stand sechsmal auf dem besten Startplatz und erzielte 310 Weltmeisterschaftspunkte. 1975, 1978 und 1980 wurde er jeweils WM-Dritter, 1981 Vizeweltmeister. Reutemann ist zudem bis heute der erfolgreichste argentinische Formel-1-Pilot hinter dem fünfmaligen Weltmeister Juan Manuel Fangio.
