Im US-Staat South Carolina sind am Mittwochabend fünf Menschen durch Schüsse getötet worden. Bei den Opfern handelte es sich um einen Arzt, seine Ehefrau und zwei Enkelkinder im Alter von fünf und neun Jahren, wie die Polizei erklärte. Ein 38-Jähriger, der im Haus der Familie arbeitete, wurde ebenfalls erschossen.
Nach einer Fahndung konnte der mutmaßliche Täter ermittelt werden. Wie die Nachrichtenagentur AP schreibt, soll es sich dabei um den früheren NFL-Spieler Phillip Adams handeln. Der 32-Jährige soll sich nach der Tat selbst getötet haben, so eine Quelle von AP. Die Eltern von Adams sollen in der Nähe der getöteten Familie wohnen.

Weiterer Vorfall: Football-Star unter Mordanklage verhaftet
Der Football-Spieler, steht vor einer Anklage wegen Mordes ersten Grades, nachdem die Polizei behauptet, er sei am frühen Mittwochmorgen in eine tödliche Schießerei verwickelt gewesen.
Aufzeichnungen des Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office zeigen, dass der ehemalige Football-Spieler Travis Rudolph, 25, in Verbindung mit einer Schießerei am frühen Morgen in Lake Park, Florida, am Mittwoch verhaftet wurde. Er wurde in das Palm Beach Sheriff’s Main Detention Center gebracht, wo er ohne Kaution festgehalten wird.

Rudolph wird des vorsätzlichen Mordes ersten Grades in einem Fall und des versuchten Mordes ersten Grades in drei Fällen angeklagt, so das PBCSO.
„Kurz nach Mitternacht reagierten zahlreiche Menschen auf eine doppelte Schießerei, die aus einer Auseinandersetzung im 500er-Block des N Redwood Drive, Lake Park, herrührte“, sagte PBSCO in einer Presseerklärung.

Rudolph war ein hervorragender Wide Receiver an der Cardinal Newman High School, der später ein hervorragender Spielmacher für die Seminoles wurde. In seiner College-Karriere, von 2014-2016, machte Rudolph 153 Fänge für 2.311 Yards und 18 Touchdowns in drei Saisons.
Seine College-Erfolge ließen sich nicht auf die NFL übertragen, wo er kurze Einsätze bei den New York Giants und den Miami Dolphins hatte, bevor ein Kreuzbandriss im Jahr 2018 seine Profikarriere stoppte.
Rudolph hatte im vergangenen Jahr bei den Winnipeg Blue Bombers aus der Canadian Football League unterschrieben, aber das Team gab am Mittwoch nach Bekanntwerden der Verhaftung bekannt, dass er entlassen wurde.
Ein Sprecher des Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office konnte nicht sagen, ob Rudolph einen Anwalt vor seinem ersten geplanten Gerichtstermin haben wird.
