Der bahnbrechende Künstler arbeitete mit Top-Stars zusammen, jetzt starb er an den Folgen seiner COVID-19-Infektion.

Im Dezember 2021 wurde die Musik-Ikone in ein Krankenhaus eingewiesen und es bestand große Hoffnung, dass er wieder gesund wird. Sein Bruder schrieb damals: Er werde „definitiv nicht sterben“ und befände sich in einem „Erholungszustand“. Doch alle Hoffnungen waren vergebens, am 17. April 2022 verstarb er im Kreise seiner Familie.

Der begnadete Künstler setzte einem ganzen Genre seinen Stempel auf und verstarb viel zu früh. Er veröffentlichte mehrere bahnbrechende Alben und arbeitete mit Künstlern wie Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Jadakiss und Busta Rhymes zusammen.

Seine Familie verkündet die traurige Todesnachricht: Er hatte Millionen von Fans weltweit und wird für seine Leidenschaft und Brilliantheit in Erinnerung bleiben und ein Vermächtnis hinterlassen, das Generationen überdauern wird.

<h2>Hip Hop-Legende DJ Kay Slay (55) ist tot</h2>

DJ Kay Slay ist nach einer Corona-Erkrankung im Alter von 55 Jahren gestorben. Der DJ und Radiomoderator war auch unter den Pseudonymen „The Drama King“ oder „Kay Slay“ und als Graffiti-Künstler unter Dez bekannt. Keith Grayson, so sein bürgerlicher Name, starb am vergangenen Sonntag nach einem mehrmonatigen Kampf gegen die Krankheit.

Grayson wuchs in Harlem auf und tauchte in die frühe Hip-Hop-Szene von New York City ein. Er begann seine Karriere als jugendlicher Graffitikünstler und war 1983 in der Hip-Hop-Dokumentation Style Wars zu sehen.

50 Cent schrieb zu einem gemeinsamen Bild: „Ruhe in Frieden, K Slay, Gott segne dich“ an den DJ erinnert. Kollege Ice-T postete: „Ich habe seinen ganzen Kampf im Krankenhaus mitverfolgt. Ich dachte ehrlich, er würde durchkommen. Das tut wirklich weh. F… Covid. Ruhe in Frieden, Drama King.“

„DJ Kay Slay ist eine dominierende Figur in der Hip-Hop-Kultur mit Millionen von Fans weltweit und wird für seine Leidenschaft und Exzellenz mit einem Vermächtnis in Erinnerung bleiben, das Generationen überdauern wird“, heißt es laut „People“ in einem Statement seiner Familie. Der Hip-Hop-Sender Hot 97, bei dem Kay Slay Shows moderierte, erklärte bei Twitter: „Als kulturelle Ikone war Kay Slay mehr als nur ein DJ, für uns war er Familie und ein wichtiger Teil dessen, was Hot 97 zu dem erfolgreichen Sender machte, der er heute ist.“

<p>Die Hip-Hop-Welt hat sich ebenfalls bereits zum Tod von DJ Kay Slay geäußert. Rapper Snoop Dogg (50) postete bei Instagram ein Bild des Verstorbenen mit den Worten: „Danke, dass du du warst. Gott segne deine Seele. Grüße meine Mutter von mir.“</p>
