Sein Bandkollege schrieb über seinen guten Freund, dessen Tod ihn schwer traf: „Großartige Erinnerungen, großes Talent und Lustig. Konkurrenzfähig. Schlagfertig. Und immer stilvoll. Wir sehen uns auf der anderen Seite, mein Freund.“
Die Gruppe erreichte von 1975-81 acht aufeinanderfolgende Top-10-Alben, darunter den Chart-Hit „That’s the Way of the World“ und das Live-Set „Gratitude“.

Andrew Woolfolk (1950-2022) ist tot. Der US-amerikanische Saxophonist war ein langjähriges Mitglied der Band Earth, Wind & Fire. Woolfolk sei nach langer Krankheit verstorben, teilte Philip Bailey (70), Sänger de Gruppe, auf Instagram mit. Der Musiker wurde 71 Jahre alt.
„Ich habe ihn in der Highschool getroffen und wir wurden schnell Freunde und Bandkollegen. Sein Name war Andrew Paul Woolfolk“, schreibt Bailey zu einem gemeinsamen Bild. „Wir haben ihn heute verloren, nachdem er mehr als sechs Jahre lang krank war.

Bailey spricht weiter von großartigen, gemeinsamen Erinnerungen. Woolfolk habe viel Talent besessen, sei unter anderem witzig und schlagfertig gewesen. Den Beitrag beschließt der Sänger mit den Worten: „Booski… Wir sehen uns auf der anderen Seite, mein Freund.“
Woolfolk, der 1950 in Texas geboren wurde, kam 1972 zu Earth, Wind & Fire, drei Jahre nach der Gründung der Gruppe und war mit Unterbrechung Mitglied bis 1993. Während seiner langen Karriere arbeitete er unter anderem auch mit Musikerkollegen wie Phil Collins (71).

Woolfolk spielte mit Earth, Wind & Fire, als diese zu den größten R&B-Acts des Landes gehörten. Er trat der Gruppe 1973 bei und wirkte auf ihren Gold- oder Platin-Alben von Head to the Sky bis Powerlight von 1983 und darüber hinaus mit.
Earth, Wind & Fire produzierten im Laufe der Zeit sieben Stücke in den Top-10-Popsingles, von „Shining Star“, das im Mai 1975 die Billboard Hot 100 anführte und einen Grammy gewann, bis zu „Let’s Groove“, das sich 1981 fünf Wochen lang auf Platz 3 hielt.

Zu ihren weiteren größten Hits gehörten „Sing a Song“, das Beatles-Cover „Got to Get You Into My Life“ (aus dem Film Sgt. Pepper’s von 1978), die Disco-Klassiker „September“ und „Boogie Wonderland“ – letzterer mit den Emotions – sowie der zweifache Grammy-Gewinner „After the Love Has Gone“. EWF erreichten auch acht Nr. 1-Platzierungen in den R&B-Singles-Charts von Billboard.
