Andrew Backer (53), Bassist bei Elektro-Band 808 State TOT
808 State Bassist und Keyboarder Andrew Barker starb im Alter von 53 Jahren. Die Nachricht vom Tod des Musikers verbreitete die Band am Sonntag auf ihrer Twitter-Seite: „Schweren Herzens muss ich euch über das Ableben von Andrew Barker informieren“.

Seine Familie und seine Freunde bitten darum, dass die Menschen in dieser schweren Zeit die Privatsphäre respektieren. Sie können sich aber gerne an die Freude erinnern, die er durch seine Persönlichkeit und seine Musik brachte. „Wir werden dich schmerzlich vermissen“.
Die Fans der Gruppe zollten der Gruppe schnell ihren Respekt. Eine Person twitterte: „Ich bin zu 808 State hingezogen, seit ich eines eurer Tapes in der Sammlung meiner Indie-Goth-Schwester gefunden habe.“

Eine andere Person schrieb: „Es ist so traurig, dies zu hören, ein weiterer unbesungener Manchester-Musiker und großartiger DJ… von den All-Night-Nights im Soundgarden, Spinmasters, den brillanten Tuesday-Night-Sunset-Radio-Sessions, all den 808-State-Gigs – ein Top-Musiker aus Manchester, dessen Musik niemals sterben wird – RIP Sir xxx.“

808 State wurde 1987 in Manchester gegründet und benannte sich nach der Roland TR-808 Drum Machine.
Die Gründungsmitglieder Graham Massey, Martin Price und Gerald Simpson veröffentlichten im September 1988 ihr Debütalbum Newbuild und hatten 1989 einen kommerziellen Erfolg, als ihr Song Pacific State von BBC Radio One gespielt wurde.

Gerald verließ 808 State 1989, um an seinem eigenen Soloprojekt zu arbeiten, und die verbleibenden Mitglieder holten die DJs Andrew und Darren Partington, bekannt als die Spinmasters, hinzu.
