In the Zweibrücken area and surroundings, there has been an increase in fraudulent phone calls on 02.08.2026, in which unknown perpetrators pretended to be police officers. The callers‘ goal is to unsettle older people in particular and persuade them to hand over cash, jewelry, or other valuables.
The scammers often claim that there have been break-ins in the neighborhood or that clues to the called party’s address have been found on arrested perpetrators. They then try to pressure their victims into handing over money or valuables to alleged police officers.
The police expressly point out:
The police never demand the handover of cash, jewelry, or valuables over the phone.
Do not provide information about your financial situation or existing valuables over the phone.
If you receive such a call, end the conversation immediately. In case of doubt, dial the emergency number 110 yourself or contact your local police station.
Inform older relatives, neighbors, and acquaintances in particular about this scam.
