Serien-Star gestorben

„Mit unsagbar schwerem Herzen teile ich die Nachricht vom Tod meines Vaters“, begann am Sonntag der Instagram-Post von der Schaupieler-Tochter Lost-Alumni Andrea Gabriel. „Er war mein Held, mein Vorbild und mein Champion – aber vor allem mein Daddy.

„Ich werde dich für immer lieben“, fügte sie hinzu.

Der aus vielen TV-Serien bekannte Schauspieler hinterlässt seine Ehefrau und zwei Töchter.

So wie alle von uns, die sich an seinen elektrisierenden Auftritten in der Tageszeit erfreuten. Auch wenn er in den frühen 70er Jahren in Love of Life (als Linc Morrison) und General Hospital (als Teddy Holmes) auftrat, war es die Rolle des kompromisslosen Dr. Seneca Beaulac in Ryan’s Hope, in der Serie Ryan’s Hope, durch die er zu einem echten Seifenopernstar wurde.

Er verkörperte die Rolle fast während der gesamten Laufzeit des ABC-Dramas von 1975 bis 1989 und war in zwei Dreiecksbeziehungen verwickelt (mit der zweiten Ehefrau Jill Coleridge und ihrer großen Liebe Frank Ryan sowie mit Ehefrau Nr. 3, der Kinderbraut Kimberly Harris, und ihrem Nebenbuhler Michael Pavel).

Nach der Einstellung von Ryan’s Hope spielte Gabriel in Generations (als Vic Reynolds) und Days of Our Lives (als Pete LeGrand) mit. Er wirkte in den 1960er Jahren in „77 Sunset Strip“ mit, in den 70ern in der „Mary Tyler Moore Show“ (wo er immer wieder als Sportreporter Andy Rivers auftrat), in den 80ern in der Sitcom „Kate & Allie“ und 1993 in der legendären „fettfreien“ Joghurt-Folge von Seinfeld.

Er wäre auch fast der Professor in Gilligan’s Island geworden. Im Pilotfilm der Komödie von 1963 spielte er die Rolle – damals ein Highschool-Lehrer -, verlor sie aber, als sie und zwei andere Charaktere überarbeitet und neu besetzt wurden, bevor die Serie auf Sendung ging.

John Gabriel, am besten bekannt als Dr. Seneca Beaulac in Ryan’s Hope, ist am 13. Juni verstorben.
