Am Montag teilten die Retter mit, dass ein 34-jähriger Mann bei dem Unfall ums Leben gekommen sei und ein 28-jähriger Mann in kritischem Zustand ins Krankenhaus gebracht worden sei.
Die Rettungskräfte brauchten mehrere Stunden mit dem Boot, um zu dem abgelegenen Unglücksort zu gelangen.
„Seine Familie und sein Team sind von dem tragischen Unfall zutiefst erschüttert, sie sind untröstlich über den Verlust ihres besten Freundes und hochgeschätzten Kollege“, teilte die Fernsehproduktionsfirma mit.

Ein Mitglied der Besetzung von National Geographic’s „Outback Wrangler“, einer Wildlife-Show, die in Australiens abgelegenem Northern Territory spielt, starb am Montag bei einem Hubschrauberabsturz, wie die Behörden mitteilten. Die Fordham Company, die „Outback Wrangler“ produziert, bestätigte den Tod Chris „Willow“ Wilson.
Der 34-jährige Wilson sammelte am Montag zusammen mit seinem 28-jährigen Kollegen Sebastian Robinson Krokodileier am King River, als sich der Vorfall ereignete. „Die Behörden erreichten die Absturzstelle heute Nachmittag und bestätigten den Tod eines 34-jährigen Mannes. Der Überlebende, ein 28-jähriger Mann, wurde in das Royal Darwin Hospital gebracht“, sagte die Polizei.

Wilson, der in der Sendung als „Willow“ bekannt war, beschrieb sich selbst auf Instagram als „Krokodiljäger und Outback-Abenteurer“. Er hinterlässt seine Frau und zwei Söhne.
In der Abenteuer-Sendung fliegen die Teilnehmer mit dem Hubschrauber in abgelegene Gebiete, um gefährdete Wildtiere einzufangen und umzusiedeln. Die Show wird in mehr als 85 Ländern ausgestrahlt.
„Wright und sein Team unterstützen die Behörden bei ihren Ermittlungen zur Ursache dieses schrecklichen Vorfalls“, heißt es in der Erklärung des Senders.
